Altamont Wins at Sesser-Valier, S. Central, Neoga Drop Losses

SESSER -- Altamont High School picked up a boys basketball victory at the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament Thursday.

The Indians downed Thompsonville, 67-53. Altamont tallied a 19-11 opening quarter lead and moved that to 41-29 at halftime. Aidan Jahraus had a big first half, scoring 11 in the opening quarter and five in the second period for 16 by halftime.

He continued his hot scoring run with 11 in the third period and finished out leading Altamont with 36 points. Noah Teasley tallied 11.

In other games, Cobden defeated Johnston City, 50-41, Marissa-Coulterville won over Waltonville, 57-29, Red Bud defeated Sparta, 63-56, Goreville pounded Galatia, 70-33, Christopher claimed a 76-47 win over Century, Odin downedZ iegler-Royalton, 63-39 and Sesser-Valier beat New Athens, 59-49.

Altamont will be back in action in the final game of the day today at 8 p.m. against Sesser-Valier.

Vandalia Holiday Tournament

South Central opened play in the Vandalia Holiday Tournament and fell to Meridian, 65-60 Thursday.

Meridian held a 20-14 opening quarter lead and led 34-27 at halftime. The Cougars came back with a 20-11 third quarter to lead 47-45 going into the final period. But South Central couldn't hold the momentum and Meridian pulled out the victory.

Keenin Willshire led the way for South Central with 32 points while Hunter Brandt chipped in with 11.

South Central will be back in action today, taking on Shelbyville at 11 a.m.

Monticello Holiday Tournament

Neoga took part in the Monticello Holiday Tournament and dropped a loss Thursday.

The Indians fell to Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 72-56.

In other games, Tuscola won over GCMS, 56-38, Monticello downed Oakwood, 56-38, Ridgeview won over Clinton, 66-48, Tuscola was a 63-40 winner over Oakwood and Monticello took the final contest of the day, 51-42.

Neoga is in the opening game today at 10 a.m. against Ridgeview then will come back to take on Clinton at 6 p.m.
