EHS Nabs Two Victories, Area Boys Basketball Roundup

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School claimed a 79-60 win over Charleston in Apollo Conference boys basketball action Friday.

The Hearts ran off to a 28-12 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one.

Parker Wolfe nailed eight field goals that included six three-pointers and five free throws for 27 points. Also in double figures were Drew Thompson with 18 as he hit three field goals and was 12 of 13 at the line and Nathan Thompson with 15.

In a Saturday contest, the Hearts downed Newton in a non-conference matchup, 73-60. The Hearts again had a big-scoring opeing quarter with a 23-10 run.

Leading the way were Drew Thompson with 29 points on nine field goals, including three trifectas and six free throws and P. Wolfe with 28 points on nine field goals that included five three-pointers and five free throws.

Jacob Stoneburner led in rebounds with seven while P. Wolfe pulled down six. Tate Niebrugge had five assists.

At Neoga

Neoga picked up two wins over the weekend.

In a Friday contest, the Indians tallied a 57-45 victory over Arcola.

Neoga edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead but the score was tied at 19-19 at halftime. The Indians then had a 38-26 second half.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Trevor Roy led the way with 22 points while Paci McClure added 14 and Nick Titus 10.

Then in a Saturday contest at the Hoosier Gym in Indiana where the team that claimed the state championship in the movie Hoosiers played, Neoga downed Chrisman, 67-44.

The Indians led 36-13 at halftime and never looked back. Four players hit double figures. McClure led the way with 19 points while Roy added 17, Chase Banning 13 and Titus 10.

At Greenville

Altamont won twice at the Greenville Quadrangular on Saturday.

In the first contest, the Indians downed Greenville, 55-49. The Indians held a 10-9 opening quarter lead and led 23-21 at halftime. Altamont then had a 25-13 run to break the game open.

Kaden Eirhart scored 13 points while Aidan Jahraus and Noah Teasley scored 12 each.

In the second contest, Altamont was a 51-42 winner over Staunton.

Staunton moved ahead 11-8 in the opening quarter but Altamont came back to push ahead 26-20 at halftime. The Indians held a two-point lead going into the final quarter then held off Staunton as Aidan Jahraus scored nine points in the period.

Jahraus finished with 26 while Denver Duckwitz chipped in with 11.

Teutopolis picked up a victory in the Eureka Shootout at Eureka College Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes trailed El Paso-Gridley 17-10 after the opening quarter and 27-23 at halftime. T-town then had a 19-10 third period run to push ahead 42-37. El Paso-Gridley came back with a 12-9 final period only to fall short in the 51-49 contest.

Evan Wermert and Brock Deters scored 11 points each to lead the Wooden Shoes.
