Altamont High School's record remained unblemished with a 73-42 victory over Effingham St. Anthony in National Trail Conference girls basketball action Monday evening.

The Indians stepped out to a 21-9 opening quarter lead as Allison Hardiek scored seven points and Brooke Runge six. Hardiek continued her hot scoring with 10 points in the second period and went on to lead the Indians with 29 points.

Also in double figures for Altamont were Runge with 17 and Rachel Jackman with 12. Runge tallied 11 in the third period after her opening quarter. The Indians improved to 3-0 in the National Trail Conference, 9-0 overall.

St. Anthony was led by Riley Guy with 16 and Lucy Fearday with 15. The Bulldogs drop to 2-1 in the NTC, 5-4 overall.

At Effingham

Effingham trailed Charleston in the opening quarter but took a one-point halftime lead and went on for a 50-44 Apollo Conference victory Monday evening.

The Trojans held a 15-11 opening quarter lead as Shae Littleford tallied 10 points in the period. But the Hearts came back with a 9-4 second quarter run to lead 20-19 at halftime then pushed that to 32-29 going into the final period. The Hearts then connected on 14 of 17 free throws in the final quarter.

Annie Frost scored 16 for the Hearts while Taylor Armstrong chipped in with 13.

Charleston was led by Littleford with 33.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City remained unbeaten on the season with a 70-63 victory over Shelbvyille Monday evening.

The Bobcats edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead but the Rams came back in the second period to move ahead 36-33 at halftime.

CHBC then rallied with a 13-9 third period and finished strong for the win.

Three players scored in double figures for the Bobcats. Jaelyn Robertson led the way with 19 points while Gracie Heckert added 13 and Mackenzie Bunch 11.

CHBC improved to 8-0 on the season. CHBC also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 55-13 to improve to 3-0.

At Dieterich

North Clay (Louisville) handed Dieterich a 58-43 National Trail Conference loss in action Monday evening.

Madison Lovett scored her 1,000th career point in the second quarter for the Cardinals. Lovett hit one basket in the opening period then scored four baskets, including a three-pointer, and was five of six at the line for 14 points. She finished with 33, connecting on eight field goals including two trifectas and was 11 of 16 at the line.

Dieterich was led by B. Locey with 11 points and K. Johnson with 10.

The Movin' Maroons nabbed the junior varsity contest, 41-21.

Neoga stepped out to an early lead and went on for a 59-45 National Trail Conference win over South Central Monday evening.

The Indians led 27-15 at halftime. Phillips led the way with 21 points while Titus finished with 14 for the winners.

South Central was led by Halle Smith, Kayli Swift and Laney Webster with nine points each.

The Indians improve to 2-1 in the conference, 6-4 overall. South Central drops to 3-3 on the season.

Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 28-25.

Teutopolis took the early lead then held off Pana for a 41-36 victory in action Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 14-7 opening quarter lead and led 23-11 at halftime. The Panthers started a comeback with a 10-9 third period and finished out with a 15-9 final period.

Niemerg tallied 13 for the Wooden Shoes while Roepke and Mette scored nine each. Niemerg had four assists. Niemerg and Schumacher pulled down seven rebounds each while Mette had six.

Newton tallied a 52-23 win over Edwards County (Albion) Monday evening.

The Eagles stepped out to a 20-10 first half lead then had a 32-13 second half.

Jansen led the way for the Eagles with 13 points while Zumbahlen chipped in with 10. Carr and Zumbahlen pulled down seven rebounds each. Zumbahlen led in assists with three and steals with three. Jansen also had three steals. Newton is now 5-3 on the season.

Newton claimed the junior varsity contest, 22-17 to improve to 2-2.

Brownstown/St. Elmo edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead on Martinsville and went on for a 57-41 non-conference victory Monday.

Campbell and Claire Wilhour provided the one-two scoring punch with 22 and 21 points respectively. Wilhour and Campbell finished with four steals each. Beall led in rebounds with nine.

Wilhour connected on five field goals that included two three-pointers and was nine of 12 at the line. BSE finished with 14 of 19 at the line.
