Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham St. Anthony claimed wins at the Class 8-2A St. Anthony Girls Basketball Regional Tuesday.

Stew-Stras downed South Central, 37-30 in the opening game of the evening. South Central moved ahead 7-2 and led 15-11 at halftime. South Central was still in the lead, 22-19, going into the final quarter. From there, Stew-Stras mounted a rally, outscoring the leaders 18-8 to pull out the victory.

In that final period, Stew-Stras connected on nine free throws and hit four baskets including a three-pointer by Quast. Quast tallied 10 points in the period, connecting on six of seven free throws.

Also in double figures for the winners was Kinkelaar with 15.

South Central was led by Webster with 18.

In the second contest, St.Anthony dominated Brownstown/St. Elmo, 26-9. The Bullpups held a 15-3 halftime lead.

Niemeyer tallied 11 for the winners while M. Kibler chipped in with eight.

BSE was led by Seabaugh with five.

St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg meet for the reginoal championship Friday at 6 p.m.

Class 4A Mattoon Regional

Top-seeded Mattoon edged Effingham, 19-16, in the first game of the evening at its own regional Tuesday..

Leading Mattoon was Sanders with nine points. Leading the fourth-seeded Mustangs were Olivia Moser and Reagan Boone with four points each. Effingham finishes the season with a 12-8 record.

No score was reported on the second game featuring Charleston against Mount Zion. Mattoon will take on the winner of that game Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for the regional title.

Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

North Clay (Louisville) and Dieterich will meet for the championship of the Edwards County Regional after both teams picked up victories Tuesday evening.

North Clay opened the evening with a 39-32 win over host Edwards County.

Edwards County took a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 19-12 at halftime. North Clay moved within four points going into the final period and had a 15-6 final period run.

Alexis VanDyke tallied 15 while Miah Ballard added 12 for the winners.

In the second contest, Dieterich won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 28-10.

North Clay and Dieterich will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael and Oakland Lake Crest will meet for the championship of the St. Michael Regional after winning Tuesday evening.

The Sharpshooters trounced Cisne, 39-4 in the opener.

Oakland Lake Crest then won over Martinsville, 20-17.

St. Michael and Lake Crest will square off at 6 p.m. Thursday for the title.

 

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Altamont and Robinson Nuttall picked up victories Tuesday evening in the Robinson Nuttall Regional.

Robinson Nuttall won over Jasper Couinty, 39-17 in the opener.

In the second contest, Altamont edged Teutopolis, 27-24. No other information provided.

Altamont will now face Robinson Nuttall Thursday at 6 p.m. for the regional championship.
