Altamont Downs Cumberland 51-41

The Altamont Indians improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 51-41 win over the Cumberland Pirates Tuesday night. The game at Cumberland High School was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Cumberland scored the first five points of the game, but Altamont came back to lead 15-11 at the end of the first period and widened the margin slightly to 26-20 at halftime. The third quarter decided the game as Altamont posted an 18-6 scoring margin to lead 44-26 heading to the final quarter. Cumberland closed the gap to 10 on a couple of occasions including when the final buzzer sounded.

Altamont made 47% of its shots, 21 of 45 including 4 of 14 threes. The Indians were just 5 of 14 from the line, but committed just eight turnovers and grabbed 24 rebounds.

Cumberland made just 16 of 47 shots, 34%, including 3 of 13 threes. The Pirates made just 7 of 15 foul shots and turned the ball over 17 times, but pulled down 32 rebounds.

Altamon was led in scoring by Aidan Jahraus with 15 points and Kaden Eirhart with 11 points. Also for Altamont: Denver Duckwitz 9, Jared Kollman 9 with 6 rebounds, Noah Teasley 5, and Jerad Ruffner 2.

Cumberland was led by Ross Hemmen who posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Wyatt Napier scored 10 points with 8 rebounds. Also for Cumberland: Brennyn Cutts 5, Gage Thompson 3, Nick Dill 3, Memphis Waggoner 2, and Wyatt Brant 2.

Cumberland is now 1-3 on the season.

Altamont won the JV game 42-28.
