Bulldogs Seventh at Robinson, BSE Fourth at Pana, T-town Second at Salem

ROBINSON -- Effingham  St. Anthony finished seventh at the Robinson Girls Basketball Thanksgiving Invitational Saturday.

In Saturday play, Mount Carmel defeated Oblong, 74-34; Fairfield defeated Robinson, 43-17 and Olney defeated Marshall, 73-67 in Session Four.

In the finals, Olney won the championship over Mount Carmel, 70-53 while Fairfield edged Marshall, 46-45 for third place. Fifth place went to Martinsville over Oblong, 55-24.

The seventh-place game went to St. Anthony, 71-67 over host Robinson in double overtime.

The two squads were tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter. Robinson edged ahead 26-24 at halftime but the Bulldogs came roaring back in the third period with a 20-7 run to lead 44-33. Then it was the Maroons turn as they tallied a 21-10 fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime, the squads tied again, sending the game into the second overtime period where St. Anthony came out with a 71-67 victory.

Riley Guy tallied 31 points for the Bulldogs while Lucy Fearday scored 18 and Rillie Willenborg 10.

Pana Tournament

Brownstown/St. Elmo competed in the Pana Tournament and finshed fourth with a 52-45 loss to Williamsville in the third place contest Saturday.

In Saturday's games, Central A&M won over Okaw Valley, 52-18, Athens won over Centralia CORL, 52-48, Pana won over BSE, 52-40 and Mattoon won over Wiliamsville, 51-35.

In the finals, Mattoon claimed the championship with a 52-47 win over Pana. Third place went to Williamsville over Brownstown/St. Elmo, fifth place went to Central A&M over Athens, 51-30 while seventh place was taken by Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran over Okaw Valley, 48-27.

In the third place contest, Brownstown/St. Elmo edged ahead 10-9 in the opening quarter and still held a one point lead at halftime, 25-24. BSE held a 39-35 lead going into the final period.

Williamsville came back with a 17-6 final period run to pull out the victory.

BSE was led by Campbell with 13 points. Claire Wilhour and Oberlink tallied nine each.

Named to the All-Tournament team from BSE was Wilhour.

Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament

Teutopolis captured second place the 19th Annual Salem Wildcat Thanksgiving Tournament.

In Saturday action, Highland downed Carterville, 49-31. T-town was a 51-36 winner over Centralia. Salem then edged Centralia, 47-44.

Highland won the tournament. T-town and Highland were tied at 3-1 at the end of the tourney. Highland then captured the tourney on a tiebreaker.

Finishing after the top two were Carterville 2-2, Salem 2-2 and Centralia 0-4.

Highland's Kristen Taylor was named Most Valuable Player. T-town's Olivia Niemerg, Ciara Roepke and Kaitlyn Schumacher were named to the All-Tournament Team.
