Altamont Crowned Bob Kerans Tourney Champ

NEWTON -- Altamont High School claimed the championship of the Bob Kerans Girls Basketball Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

In Wednesday action, Altamont defeated Flora, 52-33 while Effingham won over Vandalia, 44-42 and Newton downed Flora, 43-37.

The tournament ended Friday as Vandalia defeated Flora, 67-58; Newton edged Effingham, 42-40 and Altamont downed Vandalia, 60-48.

Altamont was followed by Newton 3-1, Effingham 2-2, Vandalia 1-3 and Flora 0-4.

Altamont downed Vandalia 60-48 behind 16 points by Ellie McManaway and 14 by Brooke Runge.

In Friday's contest, Altamont had three players hit double figures in the 60-48 win over Vandalia.

McManaway tallied 16 while Allyson Hardiek and Runge scored 14 each. Mary  Guse was on the verge of double figures with nine.

Effingham fell to Newton 42-40. The Hearts trailed 15-5 after the opening quarter but had pulled within 21-20 at halftime. Newton then had an 11-7 final period run and held off the Hearts in the final period.

Newton was led by Jansen with 11 points. Effingham wasl ed by Taylor Armstrong with 17 and Hayley Diveley with 10.
