Stew-Stras Wins Class 7-2A Girls Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Girls Basketball Regional Wednesday evening.

Stew-Stras tallied a 16-13 victory over the host Bullpups.

Stew-Stras edged out to a 4-2 opening quarter lead but trailed St. Anthony 7-6 at halftime. Stew-Stras then had a 6-2 third period to move ahead 12-9 and stayed that way the rest of the contest.

Wittenberg and VonBehrns tallied six points each for the winners.

St. Anthony was led by Kabbes with five.

Stewardson-Strasburg advances to the St. Anthony Sectional and will face Edwards County (Albion) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Edwards County downed Dieterich, 32-29 to win its own regional Wednesday.
