St. Michael Wins NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Tourney

Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of the Eighth-Grade Girls National Trail Conference Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Sharpshooters took a 37-32 win over Altamont for the crown. Altamont edged out to a 16-15 halftime lead and led 24-19 going into the final period. St. Michael then rallied with an 18-8 final quarter to pull out the victory.

Hatton led the way for the Sharpshooters with 16 while Deters chipped in with nine.

Altamont was led by Nelson with 25.

In the third place contest, South Central won over Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor, 35-25.

South Central leaped out to a 17-9 opening half and that was the game. Webster scored 24 for the winners.

SSW was led by Vonderheide with 11.

In the consolation championship, Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed the 30-19 victory. BSE was led by Ireland with 12 and Seabaugh with eight.

Dieterich was led by Westendorf with eight.

In Friday's games, Dieterich edged North Clay (Louisville), 38-35 while Brownstown/St. Elmo downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 26-18.

Dieterich was led by R.Westendorf with 20 and M. Britton with 12.

North Clay was led by VanDyke with 15 and Tappendorf with 11.

BSE trailed CHBC 12-11 at halftime but moved ahead 16-15 going into the final quarter and had a 10-3 run for a 26-18 win. Seabaugh led with nine points while Ireland chipped in with eight.

CHBC was led by Nohren with eight.
