EHS Finishes Second At Hillsboro Freshman Tournament

HILLSBORO -- Effingham High School fell to Taylorville in the championship game of the Hillsboro Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening, 50-44.

Taylorville edged out to a 13-12 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back to knot the score at 18-18 at halftime. The Heartrs then had a 16-13 third period run as Sean Zerrusen knocked down two three-pointers and tallied 10 points. EHS led 34-31 going into the final quarter.

The Tornadoes then came roaring back with a 19-10 final period run to pull out the victory. Heimsness led the Tornadoes in the final quarter with 10 points and finished with 15 for the contest. Rupert scored 11.

Effingham was led by Jared Minor with 13 and Zerrusen with 12. Brady Jackson chipped in with eight.

In the third place game, Pana defeated Auburn 71-62. The consolation championship went to Marquette over Hillsboro 46-29.
