URBANA -- Effingham's eighth-grade boys basketball squad advanced to the championship game of the Class 8-4A Urbana Regional Monday evening.

The Mustangs handed Mattoon a 52-30 loss in a display of offense. The Mustangs took an 11-8 opening quarter lead and led 25-12 at halftime. Effingham then outscored Mattoon 27-18 in the second half.

Donaldson tallied 20 points and had six rebounds. Grant Wolfe scored six points, had three steals, seven assists and six rebounds. Koenig had six points and six rebounds.

In the second game, Urbana downed Charleston 35-19.

Effingham (21-1) will now take on Urbana at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title. The winner advances to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional Wednesday, February 6 against the Monticello Regional winner.

Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart and Sigel St. Michael will square off for the championship of this regional after picking up victories Monday evening.

The Shamrocks took a 14-0 opening quarter lead, led 23-6 at halftime and went on for a 35-10 win. Bro. Bueker tallied 18 for the winners while Wolke added nine. Windsor was led by Hutchinson with six.

In the second game, Sacred Heart edged Stewardson-Strasburg 30-27. The Shamrocks led 19-15 at halftime and 26-21 going into the final quarter. J. Bushue and Tegeler tallied nine points each for the winners. Stew-Stras was led by Moschenrose with 12 and Overbeck with 10.

Stew-Stras ends the season with an 8-13 record.

The Shamrocks will meet St. Michael at 6 p.m. today for the regional championship.

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Oblong and Arcola will face each other for the championship of the St. Anthony Regional after winning Monday evening.

In the opener, Arcola downed Paris Crestwood 42-24.

The second game went to Oblong over St. Anthony 37-32. There was no other information on the game.

Oblong meets Arcola Thursday at 6 p.m. for the championship.

Class 8-1A Palestine Regional

Kansas and Palestine will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Kansas defeated Martinsville 41-22 in the opening game Monday evening while Palestine edged Hutsonville 41-39.

Class 8-2A Nokomis Regional

Altamont advanced to the championship game of the Nokomis Regional with a 59-31 victory over Cowden-Herrick.

Altamont jumped out to a 21-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Finn tallied 14 and Armstrong 11 for the winners.

Cowden-Herrick was led by Konner Blackerby and Aaron Nohren with 11 each.

Altamont advances to the championship game tonight at 6.

Class 8-2A Nokomis Regional

Class 8-3A Pana Regional

Teutopolis advanced to the championship game of the Pana Regional with a victory Monday evening.

T-town jumped out to an 11-4 opening quarter lead on Assumption Central A&M and led 21-12 at halftime. T-town had a 22-6 second half run.

Blake Mette tallied 13 and Mitch Hardiek 10 for the winners. T-town will now face Pana at 6 p.m. Thursday for the title. Pana edged Shelbyville Moulton 55-54.

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Marshall and Robinson Nuttall picked up victories Monday evening at the Robinson Nuttall Regional.

In the opener, Marshall defeated Casey-Westfield 33-29. The second game went to Robinson Nuttall over Jasper County 49-36.

Marshall and Robinson Nuttall square off for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.
