Area Coaches Selected IBCA Coach of the Year

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association released its Coach of the Year lists and several area coaches earned honors.

Named in the high school boys basketball coaches division was Teutopolis High School's Chester Reeder in Class 2A, District 14.

In girls high school basketball, Effingham's Jeff Schafer was listed in Class 3A, while Altamont's Katie Lurkins was named in Class 1A and Laurie Thompson, Teutopolis High School, was named in Class 2A, all in District 14.

In junior high boys basketball, Kent Niebrugge was named for Teutopolis in Class 8-3A while Doug Smith was named from Teutopolis in Class 7-3A, District 14

Coaches named in girls junior high basketball were Effingham's Jeff Tonn in Class 8-4A, Teutopolis' Maria Tegeler in Class 8-3A, Altamont's Lindsay VanBlaricum in Class 7-2A and North Clay's Morgan Walker in Class 8-2A, all in District 14.

The IBCA Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Saturday, May 4 at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the banquet will honor all junior high, high school, college and for the first time, the IHSA Wheelchair State Champion, Coach of the Year selections.

All players, coaches, media, officials, Friends of Basketball and teams also will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
