Chicago Teams Win Class 1A, 2A State Boys Tourneys

Chicago Providence St. Mel and Chicago Orr captured championships in the Class 1A and 2A Boys State Basketball Tournaments during the weekend at Peoria's Carver Arena.

Providence St. Mel won the Class 1A title. St. Mel downed Concord Triopia 66-41 in the opening contest while Cissna Park defeated Moweaqua Central A&M 56-44.

In the third place contest, Moweaqua Central A&M took third over Concord Triopia 70-39.

Chicago Providence St. Mel then downed Cissna Park 52-29 for the championship.

In the Class 2A State Tournament, Chicago Orr downed Chicago Corliss 83-50 in opening round play. Nashville edged Gibson City/Melvin-Sibley 47-45.

In the finals, Chicago Orr defeated Nashville 50-36 for the state title. The third place contest went to Gibson City-Melvin/Sibley over Chicago Corliss 75-66 in overtime.
