CARBONDALE -- With an early lead, Teutopolis High School looked like it might be on the way to the Class 2A Boys State Basketball Tournament.

Unfortunately the wheels fell off the wagon in the second quarter and that's the way it went the rest of the game as Nashville downed the Wooden Shoes 41-28 to win the Carbondale Super-Sectional Tuesday evening.

Dawson Smith nailed a three-pointer while Luke Ungrund and Clint Weber put in a basket each as the Shoes took a 7-5 opening quarter lead.

But, the Hornets got untracked and went on a 14-4 second period tear as Terry Pelczynski and Matt Anderson knocked in a three-pointer each and Bryce Bultman and Parker Carson had four points each. The Shoes were having turnover problems again, with five in the opening quarter and a total of nine by halftime.

Nashville came out with a 10-7 third period and finished with a 12-10 final quarter. The Hornets scored 15 of 27 from the field for 56 percent and were eight of 12 at the line for 67 percent.

Bultman led the way for the Hornets with 12 points while Parker chipped in with 10.

Teutopolis had one lone player in double figures, Weber with 12. Smith chipped in with eight and led the way in rebounds with five. The Shoes shot 33 percent from the field and only went to the free throw line three times. Smith hit one of three and Weber was 0 of 2.

T-town ends the season with a 29-6 record while Nashville advances with a 34-2 mark.
