South Central Advances, 1A, 2A Regional Scores

ODIN -- South Central High School opened play in the Class 1A Odin Boys Basketball Regional with a victory Monday evening.

The Cougars handed Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran a 55-42 loss.

South Central zipped out to a 16-6 opening quarter lead and led 31-15 at halftime. CORL actually came back in the second half to outscore the Cougars, 27-24 but the opening half was the winner.

Logan Lotz and Collin Miller scored 12 points each for the Cougars while Hunter Brandt added 11. Daniel Roberts and Seth Shumate were a point away from double figures with nine each in even scoring for the Cougars.

South Central improves to 18-12 on the season and will advance to face No. 2 North Clay (Louisville) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Tonight's games will feature No. 3 Mulberry Grove against No. 13 Sandoval at 6 followed by No. 6 Odin taking on No. 11 Patoka at 7:30.

St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Cisne trailed Hutsonville/Palesteine 13-12 after the opening quarter but the Runnin' Lions came back with a 16-5 second period and never looked back in a 50-32 victory in opening round play of the Class 1A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional Monday.

Brach tallied 15, Hatcher 11 and Fetherling 10 for the winners.

Cisne advances to face top-seeded Altamont at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In tonight's games, No. 4 St. Elmo/Brownstown takes on No. 14 Martinsville at 6 followed by No. 5 Dieterich against No. 12 Oblong at 7:30.

 

Neoga Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Arcola captured opening round victories in the Class 1A Neoga Regional Monday.

No. 11 CHBC handed No. 5 Hume Shiloh-Tri-County a 76-57 loss in the second game of the evening.

CHBC took a 17-11 opening quarter lead and led 40-28 at halftime. The Bobcats then had a 36-29 second half.

Five players hit double figures for the Bobcats. Eddie Clearwater led with 19 points while Dylan Webster chipped in with 18. Also in double figures were Nick Miller and Dylan Taylor with 13 each and Keegan Martin with 11.

CHBC advances to face No. 3 Neoga at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In the opener, Arcola downed Chrisman, 66-43. Arcola will now take on No. 2 Nokomis at 7 p.m. today.

Edinburg Regional

Bethany Okaw Valley picked up the opener over Ramsey, 58-34 in the Class 1A Edinburg Regional Monday.

Bethany Okaw Valley advances to face No. 1 Moweaqua Central A&M Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Tonight's games feature No. 4 Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against No. 13 Edinburg Co-op at 6 followed by No. 6 Buffalo Tri-City against No. 12 Niantic Sangamon Valley at 7:30.

 

Effingham St. Anthony Regional

No. 8 Robinson handled No. 10 Newton to the tune of 65-52 in the Class 2A St. Anthony Regional Monday.

The Maroons ripped out to an 18-3 opening quarter lead and led 32-23 at halftime.

Newton had three players finish in double figures. Zak Finn tallied 20 while Aaron Einhorn added 19 and Mitchell Zumbahlen 10. The Eagles hit 13 three-pointers with Finn knocking down six and Einhorn five.

Robinson now advances to face top-seeded Teutopolis tonight at 7.
