Lady Shoes Into the 2A Elite Eight

Teutopolis claimed the Class 2A Tuscola Sectional championship.

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes moved into the Elite Eight of girls Class 2A basketball Thursday night with a convincing 53-31 win over the Sullivan Lady Redskins. The game for the championship of the Tuscola 2A Sectional championship was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

Teutopolis had escaped with a six-point win over Sullivan back at Thanksgiving. Asked what was the difference this time, Lady Shoes Coach Laurie Thompson said, "We rebounded better, played better defense, and cut down on turnovers."

After falling behind 2-0 to open the lead, Teutopolis moved ahead and never again trailed. T-Town was up 15-7 after one quarter, and then outscored Sullivan 12-1 in the second quarter to lead 27-8 at halftime. It was 40-20 Shoes after three quarters.

Teutopolis shot 49% from the field, 17 of 35 including 3 of 9 threes. The Shoes made 16 of 21 foul shots, turned the ball over 11 times and grabbed 21 rebounds.

Sullivan made just 12 of 36 shots, 33%, including 3 of 11 threes. The Lady Redskins went to the foul line just seven times and made four, turned the ball over a whopping 19 times, and pulled down 17 rebounds.

Olivia Niemerg came off the bench to lead Teutopolis with 13 points on four of five shooting. Sadie Bueker scored 12 points. Also for Teutopolis: Morgan Mette 9, Claire Bushur 8, Savannah Grimes 6, and Lexie Niebrugge 5.

Teutopolis improved to 31-4 and will play Monday night at 8pm in 2A Super-Sectional play at Salem against Nashville. We will have the game on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

All tickets for the girl’s super sectional game on Monday at Salem are $8.00 each.

Tickets are a mix of both general admission and reserved seating tickets. Tickets will be sold today (Friday) to the tournament players, managers, THS students and staff, in the Athletic office at the Teutopolis High School.

Tickets will also be sold on Saturday from 10:30-11:30 to the General Public, at the Teutopolis High School Athletic Office. Tickets may also be purchased at the door at Salem High School.

Note: These tickets are for the 2A super sectional game only. The gym will be cleared after the 6:00 1A super sectional game.

Here's the schedule for sales: Friday, Feb 15th 8:00-8:25 am: Tournament players, managers in the Athletic Office; 1st Hour: Other girl basketball players, cheerleaders, pomerettes and boy basketball players in the Athletic office; Lunch Hour: Students tickets will be sold over the lunch hour in the high school gym. Students will be allowed to buy one ticket for themself; 1:30-2:30: Staff may purchase tickets in the High School Athletic office; Saturday, 10:30 – 11:30: General public on a first come first serve basis in the THS Athletic office.

There will be a maximum of five tickets per person. There will be no admittance to the high school building on Saturday until 10:25 a.m.
