Teutopolis Wins 8-3A State Championship

Teutopolis claimed the Class 8-3A State Tournament championship.

For the third time in the past four seasons, the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are the 8-3A Boys State Basketball Champions.

Teutopolis defeated Dunlap Valley Middle School 53-27 Thursday night in the championship game at Tolono Unity Junior High School. The Wooden Shoes closed out their championship season with a record of 26-3.

Teutopolis held a 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and still led 27-16 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Wooden Shoes outscored Dunlap Valley 15-1 to lead 42-17 and then posted an 11-10 fourth quarter edge to win by 26 points.

Brendan Niebrugge scored 17 points to lead Teutopolis, while Caleb Siemer added 15. Also for T-Town: James Niebrugge 10, Logan Roepke, Ben Goeckner and Derek Niemerg 3 each, and Tyler Schwerdt 2. Other members of the team are Hunter Thompson, Ivan Wernsing, Caleb Bloemer, Connor Siemer, Derek Hewing, Adam Lustig, Caden Hoene, Ethan Mette, Connor Cothran, Mitch Jansen and Bennet Thompson.

Kent Niebrugge is the head coach of the Teutopolis 8th grade boys team.

A Welcome Home ceremony will be held for the eighth grade team on Sunday, starting at 12:30pm with a fire truck ride, and a 1pm ceremony held in the gym. Cake and punch will follow in the cafeteria.

Williamsville won the third place contest over Vandalia, 52-45.
