T-Town Advances To Eighth-Grade State Title Game

TOLONO -- Teutopolis advanced to the championship game of the Class 8-3A Boys State Basketball Tournament with two victories Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes opened with a 52-27 win over  Kankakee Bishop McNamara. T-town edged out to an 11-10 opening quarter lead and led 28-14 at halftime.

Two players hit double figures for the Shoes. Brendan Niebrugge and Caleb Siemer scored 13 points each.

In other first round games, Williamsville defeated Washington Central, 41-33; Vandalia won over Glenwood Brookwood, 49-41 and Dunlap Valley MS edged St. Joseph, 41-36.

In semifinal play, T-town was a 44-27 winner over Williamsville while Dunlap Valley MS defeated Vandalia, 68-48.

T-town took a 9-6 opening quarter lead then broke the game open over the next two quarters, outscoring Williamsville, 27-12.

Niebrugge tallied 12 while Logan Roepke chipped in with 10 and Caleb Siemer added 10.

T-town, now 25-3 on the season, will face Dunlap Valley MS at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for the state title. Dunlap Valley is 23-3.

Williamsville (26-2) meets Vandalia (23-3) at 6 p.m. for third place Thursday.

Class 8-1A State Tournament

Stewardson-Strasburg competed in the Class 8-1A State Tournament at Macon Meridian High School Saturday.

The Stars came up short in a 41-28 loss to Ottawa Marquette. Stew-Stras took a 9-3 opening quarter lead but Marquette came back to lead 14-11 at halftime then had a 10-4 third period run.

Austin Wittenberg led Stew-Stras in scoring with 11 points while Daniel Davis added nine. Stew-Stras saw its season come to a close with a 24-2 record.

In other games, Springfield Little Flower downed Washington St. Patrick, 65-39, Peoria Hollis won over Ransom, 35-22 and Ashland-Central downed Rantoul St. Malachy, 48-22.

In the semifinals, Peoria Hollis beat Springfield Little Flower, 51-42 and Ashland-Central won over Ottawa Marquette, 43-38.

Springfield Little Flower faces Ottawa Marquette at 6 p.m .Thursday for third place while Peoria Hollis takes on Ashland-Central at 7:30 for the state championship.
