Olney Hands Hearts Girls One Point Loss

OLNEY -- Effingham High School took the early lead but couldn't hold on and fell to Olney, 58-57 in a Saturday girls basketball game. It was the final game of the regular season for EHS.

The Hearts led 29-16 at halftime and 48-28 going into the final period. The Tigers then went on a run, outscoring EHS 30-9 to pull out the one-point victory.

Effingham had two players in double figures. Abby Weis led the way with 18 points while Carsyn Fearday chipped in with 15.

Effingham will be back in action in the Class 3A Waterloo Regional Tuesday. The Hearts drew the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of the Freeburg vs. Cahokia contest at 6 p.m. Those two teams play tonight.
