Nine Lady Hearts Seniors Win Final Game on Home Floor

Nine Effingham Lady Hearts seniors played their final game on their home floor Thursday night, and they went out in style, defeating Lincoln 57-28. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. We also videotaped the game and copies will be available soon.

Effingham hit nine of 16 shots in the first quarter to take a 24-10 lead. Despite making just 3 of 15 shots in the second quarter, the Lady Hearts extended their lead to 36-17 at halftime. A 21-9 third quarter left Effingham on top 57-26 heading for the final period where a continuous clock was employed. Only two points were scored in the shortened period, leaving the Lady Hearts with a 29-point win.

Effingham ended up shooting 40% from the field, 21 of 33 including 5 of 11 threes. Lincoln shot just 24% from the field, 10 of 41 including 2 of 14 threes. Effingham made 10 of 15 foul shots, committed 14 turnovers but just five in the second half, and grabbed 33 rebounds. Lincoln made 6 of 11 free throws, turned the ball over 17 times, and pulled down 21 rebounds.

Effingham's second all-time leading girls basketball scorer, Carsyn Fearday, scored 13 points in the first quarter on the way to a 26-point night. Fearday hit 9 of 14 shots and made 7 of 8 from the line while also grabbing nine rebounds. Abby Weis was also in double figures with 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Also for Effingham: Miranda Fox 8, Natalie Carie 5, and Jessie Herboth 2.

Cadence Presswood led Lincoln with 11 points.

Effingham improved to 24-5 and will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Olney Richland County. The Lady Hearts begin Class 3A Regional action Tuesday at Waterloo against the winner of Monday's Freeburg/Cahokia game.

Effingham won the JV game 62-35.
