Oblong, Edwards Co., Marshall, Olney Win in LIC Tourney

Oblong, Edwards County (Albion), Marshall and Olney picked up victories in consolation action at the Little Illini Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

In the opener, Oblong handed Cumberland a 56-38 loss. Oblong edged out to a 17-13 opening quarter lead and led 27-17 at halftime. Meese kept Oblong afloat in the third quarter, scoring 10 of his team's 13 points. In the final period, Oblong had 16-9 run.

Richardson and Meese tallied 16 points each for the winners while Mayhew chipped in with 14. Cumberland was led by Trevor Brumleve with eight and Monte Wolke with seven.

In the second game, Edwards County outlasted Hutsonville/Palestine 77-71. The third game went to Marshall over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 53-34. Olney then edged Lawrenceville 51-47 to close out the evening.

Oblong will now take on Edwards County at 6 p.m. Wednesday while Marshall faces Olney at 7:30. The winners advance to the consolation championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Tonight's games, in winner bracket play, feature Robinson against Newton at 6 p.m. and Casey-Westfield taking on Flora at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the championship Friday at 7:30 p.m. while the losers play for third place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
