The Effingham Junior High School boys basketball season came to an end in the Class 7-4A Charleston Regional semi-final game with a 34-33 loss to Urbana Monday evening.

Effingham got a good look at the end of the game but it just rolled off. Effingham was led by Ryan Sandifier with 12 points, all in the second half. Mason Hull pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with six points.

Urbana hit a three at the end of the first quarter to take a 9-6 lead and extended that lead to five at half, 17-12. Urbana pushed the lead to six after three quarters by outscoring the Mustangs 13-12. The Mustangs made a great attempt at a comeback that just fell short. Effingham outscored Urbana 9-4, falling just short of making a complete comeback.
Effingham finishes the season at 13-5.

"I would like to thank all my players and families for a great season," said Effingham Coach Mike Walker. "It was an honor working with you."

Class 7-2A Okaw Valley Regional

Altamont advances to the championship game of the  Class 7-2A Okaw Valley Regional with a victory Monday evening.

Altamont edged out to a 10-7 lead on Okaw Valley and pushed that to 20-16 at halftime. Okaw Valley came back to pull within 27-24 going into the final period. Altamont then put the game away with a 16-3 run.

Brown led the winners with 15 points while Stevenson chipped in with nine.

In the opening game of the evening, Nokomis downed Cowden-Herrick 41-19. Nokomis will now take on Altamont at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony and Paris Crestwood advanced to the championship game of the Class 7-2A St. Anthony Regional.

St. Anthony defeated Arcola 25-17 in the second game of the evening. In the opener, Paris Crestwood defeated Neoga 41-13.

St. Anthony and Paris Crestwood meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the regional title.

At Vandalia

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a 44-25 victory over Taylorville in opening round play of the Vandalia Eighth-Grade Tournament.

St. Elmo/Brownstown led 18-12 at halftime then had a 26-13 second half run. Kroll led the winners with 18 points while Feezel added 15.
