North Clay Splits, C'land, SEB, S.C. Win

DIETERICH -- North Clay (Louisville) split victories during weekend boys high school basketball competition.

In a Friday contest, the Cardinals downed Dieterich, 57-43. With a 30-16 first half, North Clay couldn't be caught.

Two players scored in double figures. Kaden Turner tallied 14 points while Luke Fleener chipped in with 10.

Dieterich was led by Collin Hartke and Derek Kuhl with 12 points each.

The Movin' Maroons captured the junior varsity game, 62-51.

In Saturday National Trail Conference play, Altamont claimed a 53-46 win over North Clay.

The Indians connected on 24 of 32 free throws in the contest. Altamont led 13-12 after the opening quarter and 25-22 at halftime. Altamont held a two point lead going into the final quarter then stepped to the free throw line hitting 18 of 21.

Aidan Jahraus hit four field goals that included three trifectas and was 12 of 13 at the line for his team-leading 29 points. Alek Biggs added 12 points, connecting on one field goal and 10 of 13 at the line.

North Clay was led by Aleon Rinehart with 15, Nick Miller with 13 and Turner with 11.

North Clay is 4-2 in the conference, 20-8 overall.

At Centralia

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a 65-56 victory over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Friday.

SEB took a 19-13 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 37-20 at halftime. Christ Our Rock came back with an 18-7 third period run to pull within six but SEB had a 21-18 final quarter.

Andy Goldsborough had a double-double for the winners with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Bryton Pruett finished with 10 points and five assists. Nate Philpot also had five assists. Jace McWhorter had five steals.

Mulberry Grove edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 42-40 in non-conference action Friday.

The Aces took a 13-8 opening quarter lead and led 26-19 at halftime. WSS came back with an 11-5 third period to pull within 31-30. Mulberry Grove then had an 11-10 final quarter.

Beau Bennett and Jackson Miller scored 14 points each for the Hatchets who drop to 13-13 on the season. Mulberry Grove improved to 18-4.

Cumberland pounded Martinsville, 60-21 in action Friday evening.

The Pirates ran off to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and led 39-14 at halftime.

Two players scored in double figures for the Pirates. Zach Wolke tallied 14 and Brice LaBaume added 11.

Marshall edged out to an opening quarter lead on Newton and went on for a 71-57 victory Friday evening.

Newton had three players finish in double figures. Justin Zumbahlen led the way with 15 points while Zak Finn added 14 and Kyle Schafer 13.

The Eagles drop to 6-17 on the season.

Newton nabbed the junior varsity game, 54-52.

In a Saturday contest, South Central claimed a 50-33 win over Patoka.

Patoka took a 9-6 opening quarter lead before the Cougars came back with a 14-4 second quarter and went on of the win.

Hunter Brandt tallied 15 points for the winners while Logan Lotz and Daniel Roberts added 11 each. The Cougars improve to 14-10 on the season.

South Central also claimed the junor varsity game.
