MOUNT ZION -- Effingham Junior High School claimed a 42-26 victory over Stephen Decatur in Class 8-4A Mount Zion Boys Basketball Regional action Monday.

 

The Mustangs took a 25-18 halftime lead and had a 17-8 second half.

Three players scored in double figures. Armando Estrada led the way with 13 while Tanner Pontious added 12 and Garrett Wolfe 10. John Westendorf led in rebounds with 12. Pontious had 10 rebounds while Estrada had nine.

Effingham improved to 18-4 on the season and will play either Mount Zion or Charleston for the regional championship. Mount Zion and Charleston's game was postponed to tonight at 5 p.m.

The regional championship game has been moved to Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional

Effingham -- Estrada 13, Wolfe 10, Pontious 12, Westendorf 7

Stephen Decatur -- Taylor 8, Millsap 5, Ridley 5, Cunningham 8

 

Class 8-2A St. Anthony  Regional

Altamont and St. Anthony moved into the championship game of the St. Anthony Regional with victories Monday evening.

Altamont edged South Central 36-34 in the opening game of the evening.

St. Anthony then defeated North Clay (Louisville), 36-22.

Altamont and St. Anthony will meet for the championship at 7 p.m. today.

 

Class 7-2A Dieterich Regional

Casey-Westfield ended Neoga's season with a 46-14 victory Monday at the Dieterich Regional.

In the second contest,  Dieterich downed Paris Crestwood, 46-36.

Casey-Westfield and Dieterich meet today at 6 p.m. for the championship.

 

Class 8-3A Arthur Regional

Host Arthur and Cumberland will meet for the championship of this regional.

Arthur downed Paris Mayo, 51-33 in the opening game Monday evening.

Cumberland followed with a 31-24 victory over Tuscola East Prairie.

Cumberland will take on Arthur at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship.
