The East St. Louis Flyers, down 12-2 to the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes out of the gate Monday night, righted the ship and posted a 59-46 victory over the Shoes to win the championship of the Salem Invitational Tournament. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Teutopolis were deadly for the first few minutes of the contest, but the Flyers went on a 8-0 run and were within 12-10 after one quarter. A 17-11 edge in the second quarter left the Flyers in front 27-23 at halftime, and a 12-12 third quarter standoff left East St. Louis in front 39-35 heading to the final quarter.

Teutopolis kept falling victim to turnovers and when they fouled to put East St. Louis at the line, the Flyers hit 11 of 13 free throws in the final quarter, outscored the Shoes 20-11 in the period, and won the game by 13 points.

Teutopolis' one-two punch of Dawson Smith and Clint Weber scored 37 of Teutopolis' 46 points; 19 for Smith, 18 for Weber. Luke Ungrund scored five points and Evan Wermert and Mitch Hardiek scored two points apiece.

Teutopolis shot 41% from the field, 19 of 46, including 4 of 13 threes. The Shoes shot just seven free throws and made four of them. T-Town turned the ball over a whopping 19 times, but pulled down 30 rebounds.

East St. Louis was 20 of 46 from the field for 43%, including 5 of 16 threes. The Flyers made 14 of 20 foul shots, turned the ball over just eight times, but had only 22 rebounds.
