Effingham Claims Greenville Tournament Championship

GREENVILLE -- Effingham Junior High School claimed the championship of the James Burke Memorial Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday at Greenville.

The Mustangs defeated Troy Triad 58-45. Effingham took a 30-23 halftime lead then had a 20-10 third period run and held off a challenge in the final quarter.

Grant Wolfe tallied 25 points, Beals 16 and Donaldson 15 in the game for the Mustangs. Wolfe had eight assists in the game and six rebounds. Donaldson chipped in with six rebounds. Effingham hit 61 percent from the field and had only one free throw and made it.

The championship was victory No. 300 for Coach Rod Wiethop in his coaching career. The Mustangs improve to 18-1 on the season.

Troy Triad was led by Moss with 12 and Rood with 10.
