Wooden Shoes Win at Salem Over Centralia

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes moved into the championship bracket semifinals at the Salem Invitational Tournament Thursday night with a 62-48 win over the Centralia Orphans. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

The Shoes were down 5-0 to start the game and trailed until a three-point basket put them ahead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Shoes led 32-23 at halftime and 46-32 after three quarters before a 16-16 standoff in the final period.

Teutopolis shot just under 48% from the field, 22 of 46, including 7 of 15 threes. The Shoes were 11 of 15 at the line, committed 10 turnovers and pulled down 35 rebounds. Centralia hit on 18 of 54 shots, 33%, including 11 of 32 threes. The Orphans tried just three foul shots, making one, but committed just five turnovers while grabbing 17 rebounds.

Clint Weber and Dawson Smith combined for 41 points for Teutopolis, Weber going 9 of 16 from the field with eight rebounds and three assists while finishing with 21 points. Smith scored 20 points; he made five of 10 shots including three threes while hitting seven of eight foul shots and completing a double-double with 11 rebounds. Also for the Shoes: Luke Ungrund 7, Evan Wermert and Lucas Drees 5 each, Evan Addis 3, and Mitch Hardiek 1.

Centralia Mason Blakemore hit on eight threes and finished with 26 of Centralia's 48 points.

Teutopolis improved to 16-2, while Centralia slipped to 7-9. 

The Wooden Shoes will play Friday night at 8:00 against Thornton Fractional North, who beat Salem 52-43 in the other Thursday game. The Shoes game will be preceded at 6:30pm by Effingham vs. East St. Louis. We will broadcast both games Friday on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
