Lady Hearts Win 16th to Start Round Robin

The Effingham Lady Hearts led by just three after the first quarter, but won by 28 in downing the Bloomington Lady Raiders Monday night 59-31. The opening night of the Effingham Round Robin Tournament also saw Centralia beat Vandalia 39-29. The Lady Hearts game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Effingham struggled to make a basket early, but finally pulled ahead and led 11-8 after one period. The second quarter was the difference, though, as Effingham outscored Bloomington 21-5 and led 32-13 at halftime.

Effingham shot 36% from the field, 21 of 58, including 3 of 11 threes. The Hearts made 12 of 18 foul shots, turned the ball over 11 times and pulled down a whopping 40 rebounds.

Bloomington made 33% of its shots, 13 of 40, including 3 of 13 threes. The Raiders were 2 of 5 from the line, turned the ball over 20 times and grabbed 20 rebounds.

Effingham's Carsyn Fearday led all scorers with 20 points on 8 of 16 shooting. Abby Weis was also in double figures with 12 points. Taylor Armstrong came off the bench to score nine points with five rebounds. Also for Effingham: Skyler Schafer six, Miranda Fox five, Natalie Carie three, and Kiyah Kuhlman and Kennedy Sowell two each.

Bett O'Neal led Bloomington with nine points. 

The tournament takes a break on Tuesday, but games are scheduled Wednesday and Thursday and then the games weathered out this past Saturday will be played this coming Saturday.
