MAHOMET -- Effingham High School handed Mahomet-Seymour a 49-35 Apollo Conference girls basketball loss Thursday evening.

The Hearts trailed Mahomet-Seymour 12-10 after the opening quarter but came back with a 16-10 second period to lead 26-22 at halftime. EHS then took off with a 14-7 third period as Carsyn Fearday went on a tear, scoring nine points on four of five from the field.

Fearday finished with 26 points to lead the Hearts. Abby Weis chipped in with eight.

Effingham stands at 15-3 overall on the season.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed a National Trail Conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday evening, 64-44.

The Indians held an 18-11 opening quarter lead but SEB came back to trail just 26-22 at halftime. Altamont then put together an outstanding third period with a 27-7 run and that was the game.

Leah Mayhaus scored 21 points for the Indians while Mary Guse chipped in with 11. Rachel Jackman and Tinley Mette were on the verge of double figures with nine points each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Claire Wilhour with 22 points and Natalie Oberlink with 13.

Altamont improved to 7-0 in the conference, 20-2 overall.

The Indians also claimed the junior varsity game, 35-13 and are unbeaten at 12-0.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to an 8-2 opening quarter lead on South Central then opened the game up with a 29-5 second period and that was it for a 61-21 victory.

WSS was led by Megan Schlechte with 24 points and Nikki Trussell with 12. Trussell led in rebounds with 12 while Schlechte had 10.

South Central was led by Laney Webster with nine points.

AOC took a 27-19 halftime lead then had a 41-27 second half run.

Jaelyn Robertson led CHBC with 16 points while Tabitha Endsley added 10. Endsley led in rebounds with seven. Lauren Wojcik had four assists. Kylee Bertin and Robertson led in steals with four each.

Robinson claimed a 57-42 victory over Casey-Westfield in opening round play of the Little Illini Conference Tournament Thursday.

Robinson now faces top-seeded Paris at 3 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting. Casey-Westfield drops into the consolation bracket and will play again Monday at 7 p.m.
