STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a National Trail Conference victory over South Central in boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets edged out to a 16-12 opening quarter lead and led 31-21 at halftime. South Central came back with a 16-9 third quarter to pull within 40-37 but WSS had a 22-18 final period to finish out with the win.

Four players hit double figures for the Hatchets. Jackson Miller tallied 18 points while Beau Bennett added 15 and Clay Tabbert and Adam Burton had 11 each. WSS improves to 2-1 in the conference, 12-6 overall.

South Central was led by Logan Lotz with 23 and Collin Miller with 14. Lotz went over the 1,000 point total for his career and now sits at 1,017. The Cougars drop to 1-2 in the National Trail Conference, 10-7 overall.

South Central won both the freshman/sophomore and junior varsity games.

At Madison

Teutopolis High School's Clint Weber was on fire Tuesday evening. The 6-foot-7 junior tallied 31 points connecting on 14 field goals and three of four free throws.

Weber got the Wooden Shoes off in the right direction in the opening quarter, scoring 11 of the team's 19 points then added on eight more in the second period but the Shoes trailed 31-28 at halftime.

Dawson Smith took over in the third quarter as the Shoes had a 21-14 run. The 6-foot-6 junior, scored 12 points on five field goals, including a three-pointer, and a free throw. He finished with 25 points for the game.

Then it was Weber's turn again with an eight point final quarter. Weber ended up with three crowd-pleasing dunks in the contest.

Dieterich edged out to a 15-10 opening quarter lead on Cumberland and held on for a three-point, 42-39 non-conference win Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons led 27-23 at halftime but the score was knotted at 33-33 going into the final quarter. Dieterich then had a 9-6 edge as Cole Niebrugge tallied five points and Derek Kuhl and Collin Hartke put in a basket each.

Hartke finished with 14 points while Niebrugge added 12 for the winners.

Cumberland was led by Brennyn Cutts with 18 and Ross Hemmen with 12.

At Ramsey

St. Elmo/Brownstown handed Ramsey a 67-32 loss in Egyptian-Illini Conference play Tuesday.

The Eagles took a 19-12 opening quarter lead and then put the game under the win column with a 20-7 second period.

SEB hit 50 percent from the field, 60 percent from three-point range and 80 percent at the line.

Three players scored in double figures led by Andy Goldsborough with 21 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds. Bryton Pruett tallied 18 and Jace McWhorter 14. McWhorter had four steals. Nate Philpot led in assists with six.

St. Elmo/Brownstown improves to 1-0 in the conference, 8-8 overall.

Mount Vernon played host to Altamont and picked up a 68-40 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.

The Rams took a 30-19 halftime lead and had a 25-11 third quarter run.

Altamont had one player hit double figures. Alek Biggs, a 5-foot-9 senior, led the way with 21 points. Biggs hit three trifectas in the contest.

The Indians drop to 9-9 on the season.

Hutsonville/Palestine edged out to a 15-14 opening quarter lead and pushed that to 33-27 at halftime. Newton came back with a 14-12 third period to trail only 45-41 going into the final period. The two teams then played to a 14-14 final quarter and H/P pulled out a 59-55 victory.

Kyle Schafer led the Eagles with 14 points while Zak Finn added 12. Newton drops to 6-11 on the season.
