Teutopolis Falls, Exits Highland Tourney; Girls Roundup

HIGHLAND -- Okawville edged Teutopolis 47-44 at the Highland Girls Basketball Invitational Thursday evening. The loss dropped the Wooden Shoes from further tournament action.

The Wooden Shoes scored only two points in the opening quarter and Okawville held a 19-8 halftime lead. T-town came back to pull within 31-24 going into the final quarter and had a 20-16 final period run but fell short.

Madeline Hartke tallied 14 for the winners while Chelsey Hardiek added 13 and Cierra Thompson 11. Haley Giles led in rebounds with eight and had two blocks. Hartke added six rebounds and led in steals with three. Thompson pulled down five boards.

In other games Thursday evening, Carlyle defeated Hillsboro 55-50 and Breese Central won over Breese Mater Dei 43-27.

The tournament comes to a close Saturday as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City faces Highland at 10 a.m. for the consolation championship. Carlyle faces Okawville at 11:30 for fifth place, Nashville takes on Breese Mater Dei for third place at 1 p.m. and Belleville West faces Breese Central for the championship at 2:30 p.m.

At Farina

In a regular season National Trail Conference contest, Altamont defeated South Central 61-35.

The Indians took a 32-15 halftime lead and never looked back. Three players hit double figures for the winners, Madison Ohnesorge tallied 18, Abbe Stevenson 15 and Danielle Vaughn 11.

South Central was led by Macie Cain with 29.
