EHS Wins in OT, Area Teams Compete At North Clay

MAHOMET -- Effingham High School claimed a 79-77 Apollo Conference victory over Mahomet-Seymour in overtime Saturday. It was the first contest for the Hearts under new varsity coach Obie Farmer.

The Hearts trailed M-S 25-16 after the opening quarter and 39-32 at halftime. The Hearts then had a 19-15 third period to pull within 54-51 In the final period, EHS tied the score at 67-67, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Hearts' Parker Wolfe took the ball down the floor and headed straight to the basket for the game winning shot. Wolfe, Drew Thompson and Cole Marxman scored four points each in the overtime period.

P. Wolfe finished with 21 while L. Wolfe had 19, Marxman 17 and Thompson 16.

The Hearts also claimed the junior varsity contest, 51-47.

At Louisville

The North Clay (Louisville) Shootout featured eight games on the agenda Saturday.

In the opener, Ramsey downed Webber Township (Bluford), 49-29. Flora won over Odin, 58-39. The third contest went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over Sandoval, 77-47.

South Central then defeated Grayville, 56-25. The Cougars held a 16-2 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

Logan Lotz led the winners with 17 points and seven assists while Daniel Roberts scored 13 and pulled down 13 rebounds. Hunter Brandt contributed 11. The Cougars improve to 6-4 on the season.

St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Cisne, 59-44. The Eagles stepped out to a 16-10 opening quarter lead but Cisne came back to tie the score at 26-26 at halftime. SEB then had a 15-12 third quarter and finished strong with an 18-6 final period.

Jacob Baron, a 6-foot-5 junior, scored 17 while Bryton Pruett added 11.

Game six went to Neoga over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 62-43.

The Indians held a 17-14 opening quarter lead and had a 20-8 second period.

Trevor Roy led the way with 16 for the Indians while Chase Banning and Reece Johnson added 15 each.

North Clay (Lousiville) then tallied a 51-48 win over Okaw Valley.

The final game of the evening went to Dieterich over Wayne City, 56-43.

The Movin' Maroons took a 15-8 opening quarter lead and led 33-21 at halftime and 45-28 going into the final quarter.

Collin Hartke scored 20 for the Maroons while Cole Niebrugge added 15 and Evan Bohnhoff 12.
