EHS, BSE Capture Girls Basketball Wins

MOUNT VERNON -- Effingham High School ripped out to a 23-5 opening quarter lead and that was the game as the Hearts defeated Mount Vernon, 65-41 in girls basketball action Tuesday.

The big news of the evening was Carsyn Fearday's 18 points which puts her over 1,500 for her career. Fearday hit five field goals and was eight of eight at the line.

Also in double figures was Kiyah Kuhlman with 10. Abby Weis added nine and Miranda Fox eight.

The Hearts improve to 10-1 on the season and don't return to action until the Charleston Holiday Tournament December 27 where they will play the opener at 9 a.m. against Danville.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo claimed a 76-35 win over Cumberland in action Tuesday evening.

BSE ran off to a 25-4 opening quarter lead and led 43-19 at halftime.

Olivia Campbell, a 5-foot-8 sophomore, led the way for BSE with 27 points. She connected on 11 field goals, four of those from three-point range, and a free throw. She also had three steals and four assists. Also in double figures were Claire Wilhour with 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Makenzie Walk with 10 points. Elizabeth Johnson had seven rebounds.

Cumberland was led by Zoe Mitchell with 12 points and Stormy Robinson with nine.
