Big Second Quarter Lifts St. Anthony Past Dieterich

The way the Friday night basketball game between the St. Anthony Bulldogs and the Dieterich Movin Maroons began, you would've thought it would be anybody's game.

An 18-4 second quarter changed that, as St. Anthony held an 11-point lead at halftime and went on to claim a 57-33 win over the Maroons at the Enlow Center. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Dieterich led the game 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the big second quarter gave St. Anthony a 29-18 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 42-25 after three quarters and won the contest by 24 points.

St. Anthony executed well, turning the ball over just four times in the contest and none in the first half.

The Bulldogs shot 47% from the field, making 21 of 45 shots, including 3 of 10 threes. St. Anthony made 10 of 16 free throws, and grabbed 27 rebounds. 

Dieterich hit on 13 of 33 shots for 39% including 3 of 12 threes. The Movin Maroons made just 4 of 12 foul shots, turned the ball over 14 times, and pulled down 20 rebounds.

St. Anthony featured balanced scoring with three players in double figures; Kaden Fearday with 15 points, Jack Hoene with 14, and Jaccob Dust with 13 points. Bryson Wall contributed eight points and eight rebounds. Also for St. Anthony: Luke Ludwig four, Quentin Milleville two, and Connor Walk one.

Collin Hartke led Dieterich with 12 points. Also for the Movin Maroons: Evan Bohnhoff six, Cole Niebrugge six, Derek Kuhl five, and Matthew Hunzinger four.

St. Anthony improved to 8-2 on the season, 4-0 in National Trail Conference play, while Dieterich slipped to 5-4 for all games, 3-1 in the NTC. 

St. Anthony rolled to a 62-19 win in the JV game. For the JV Bulldogs, Ty Wiedman scored 16 points, while Aaron Webb scored 11. Cory Gephart led Dieterich with six points.
