Wooden Shoes Defeat Flaming Hearts in Tuesday Night Boys' Action

For well into the third quarter, it was anybody's game as Teutopolis and Effingham did battle Tuesday night at J.H. Griffin Gym. The Wooden Shoes, though, began to pull away and won a hard-fought contest by 11, 66-55. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. The game was videotaped and will be up on social media this week.

Effingham and Teutopolis battled back and forth throughout the first quarter, with Effingham leading at the end of the period 14-12. The game was tied a number of times before T-Town posted a 15-11 edge in the second quarter to lead at halftime 27-25. The Shoes outpointed the Hearts 16-13 in the third quarter to take a 43-38 lead heading for the final period. 

The Shoes at one point galloped off to a 16-point lead in the final quarter before Effingham cut the deficit to 10 before losing by 11.

Teutopolis made 52% of its shots, 22 of 42, including 5 of 12 threes. Effingham made 42% of its attempts, 19 of 45, including 6 of 18 threes. Teutopolis made 16 of 23 foul shots, while Effingham hit on 11 of 13 attempts. Turnovers were close to even; 16 for the Shoes, 14 for Effingham. Teutopolis had a 28 to 14 rebound edge.

Teutopolis' Dawson Smith led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Clint Weber scored 18 points with eight boards. Also for the Shoes: Luke Ungrund 8, Mitch Hardiek 6, Evan Wermert 5, Lucas Drees 3, Jordan Hardiek 2, and Charlie Hoene 1.

Landon Wolfe led Effingham with 21 points along with six rebounds. Parker Wolfe scored 18 points. Cole Marxman and Drew Thompson each scored eight points with Marxman grabbing five rebounds.

Teutopolis improved to 6-2 on the season, while Effingham is now 2-6 on the campaign.

Teutopolis won the JV game 56-46. Evan Addis led the JV Shoes with 19 points, while Deters and Deters each scored 10. Tristin Duncan led the JV Hearts with 19 points while Jacob Briggerman scored 13.
