Effingham split freshman/sophomore boys basketball victories at Mount Zion Monday.

Seven players scored as the Hearts claimed the freshman contest, 50-30. EHS held an 18-10 halftime lead then had a 32-20 second half.

Brayden Pals led the way with 12 points while Jonathan Zerrusen added nine.

In sophomore action, the Braves edged the Hearts, 50-48. EHS led 12-9 after the opening quarter but the Braves took a 31-30 halftime lead. Mount Zion had a 19-18 second half.

Max Woelfer scored 24 points while Jett Volpi added eight for the Hearts.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony handed Vandalia a 60-20 loss in freshman play Monday.

The Bulldogs took a 34-9 halftime lead and that was the game. Kyle Stewart led the way with 17 points while Craig Croy chipped in with 14.

In the sophomore game, St. Anthony had four players hit double figures in downing the Vandals, 75-57.

Kennan Walsh tallied 18 points while Seth Hotze added 16, Craig Croy 15 and Justin Ruholl 12.
