Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured third place at the NTC Seventh-Grade Tournament.

SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of the Seventh-Grade Boys National Trail Conference Basketball Tournament Thursday.

St. Michael handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 27-21 loss for the title.

The third place contest went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over North Clay (Louisville), 41-28.

CHBC ran off to a 13-0 opening quarter lead and that was the game. Clayton Wojcik tallied 28 points to lead the way while Gage Lorton added nine.

North Clay was led by Dawkins with 11 and Weidner with seven.

The consolation championship went to Dieterich over Neoga, 29-12.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony fell to Charleston in action Thursday.

Charleston was a 49-35 winner in the seventh-grade contest. Charleston took a 27-10 halftime lead and never looked back.

The Bullpups were led by Max Koenig with 13 points.

In the eighth-grade game, Charleston was a 44-40 winner. The score was tied at 21-21 when Charleston had a 23-19 second half.

St. Anthony was led by Levitt with 13 and Sehy with 10.

At Mattoon

Effingham picked up two victories over  Mattoon Thursday.

In the seventh-grade game, the Mustangs won 32-14 stepping out to a 19-7 halftime lead.

Raddatz tallied 10 for the winners who improved to 5-8.

In the eighth-grade game, Effingham edged Mattoon, 25-21. Mattoon held a 11-7 halftime lead before the Mustangs had an 11-5 third period run.

Pontious scored 17 for the winners who improve to 10-3.

At Newton

Jasper County fell to Olney in two games Thursday.

Olney was a 54-27 winner in seventh-grade play. Nichols led Jasper County with 10 points. Jasper County dropped to 6-6.

In eighth-grade action, Olney took a 26-14 halftime lead and went on for a 46-37 victory. Jasper County was led by Shamhart with 15 and Mahaffey with 10. The squad falls to 2-10.

At Charleston

In Friday competition, Teutopolis downed Charleston twice in B competition.

T-town won the seventh-grade B game, 47-16. Brett Kreke scored 10 for the Shoes while Josh Habing, Devin Kreke, Austin Bloemer and Carter Daivdson had nine each.

In eighth-grade B play, T-town was a 49-24 winner. Caleb Bloemer led the way for the Shoes with 12.
