Effingham St. Anthony High School handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a National Trail Conference boys basketball loss Friday evening, 59-32.

The Bulldogs stepped out to an 18-8 opening quarter lead and led 32-12 at halftime.

Luke Ludwig and Jaccob Dust tallied 13 points each while Aaron Webb added 11 for the Bulldogs. Kaden Fearday and Bryson Wall were on the verge of double figures with nine points each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Bryton Pruett with 11 points and Jacob Baron with nine.

St. Anthony claimed the junior varsity game, 63-32.

At Cowden

Dieterich visited Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in National Trail Conference play Friday evening and picked up a 75-70 victory.

Dieterich edged out to a 25-24 opening quarter lead but the score was knotted at 39-39 at halftime. The Movin' Maroons then had 17-9 third period run.

Four players hit double figures for the winners. Collin Hartke, a 6-foot-2 junior, scored 24 while Cole Niebrugge chipped in with 19, Evan Bohnhoff 15 and Derek Kuhl 11.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Dylan Weber with 16, Trace Smith 15 and Burks 10.

Altamont stepped out to a big first half lead and went on for a 64-43 National Trail Conference win over South Central Friday evening.

The Indians held a 16-10 opening quarter lead and led 37-17 at halftime. Altamont finished with 11 three-pointers in the contest.

Alek Biggs, a 5-foot-9 senior, tallied 22 points for the winners while Denver Duckwitz stepped in to score 13. Biggs and Duckwitz knocked down three trifectas each.

South Central was led by Logan Lotz with 16. The Cougars who drop to 1-1 in the conference, 4-4 overall.

Newton picked up a 61-54 victory over North Clay (Louisville) in a non-conference matchup Friday.

The Cardinals held a 13-9 opening quarter lead but Newton came back to tie the score at 23-23 at halftime. The Eagles then had a 19-12 third period.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Jarrett Tharp scored 17 while Justin Zumbahlen tallied 16 points. Zak Finn chipped in with 10. Kyle Schafer pulled down five rebounds. The Eagles improve to 3-4.

North Clay was led by Ethan Bible with 13, Aleon Rinehart  11 and Luke Fleener 10.

Sullivan held a 13-7 opening quarter lead but Neoga tied at the half, 18-18. The Indians then had a 20-13 third period and that was the game.

Trevor Roy, a 6-foot-2 junior, led the way with 28 points while Levi Peters scored 13. Roy had two three-pointers in the game.

Butler had  four three-pointers while Gerhardt added three.
