Panthers Pound Fontbonne, 90-37

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois had a balanced attack on Tuesday night with four players scoring in double figures off the bench during the Panthers 90-37 win over Fontbonne University as the final game as part of the visitcurrituckOBX.com Battle in the Blue Ridge Tournament.

EIU improved to 4-5 on the season.  Fontbonne is 3-3.

The Panthers were led by Kashawn Charles who opened the game 7-of-7 from the field as he finished with a game high 21 points.  He would finish the contest 8-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.  As a team EIU finished the night 12-of-17 from 3-point range for a 70.6 percent clip.  The Panthers shot 61.4 percent from the field.

EIU used a 17-3 run earl y in the first quarter to jump out to a 23-6 lead.  Mack Smith, Josiah Wallace, Ben Harvey and Charles all hit 3-pointers during the run as EIU went up 46-19 at the half.

JaQualis Matlock would add 14 points off the bench going 7-of-9 from the field while Braxton Shaw (11 points) and Harvey (10 points) also reached double figures.  EIU would score 67 of its 90 points off the bench.

The Panthers defense limited Fontbonne to just 28.3 percent shooting as the 37 points are the second lowest total by an opponent in Lantz Arena history.  Jared Woodcock would score nine points to lead to the Griffins.

EIU added a season high 22 assists with four each by Shareef Smith, Logan Koch and Matlock.
