Altamont, St. Michael Headed To Girls Junior High State

Altamont and Sigel St. Michael claimed sectional championships Wednesday evening and will be headed to junior high state girls basketball tournaments Saturday.

Altamont captured the Class 7-2A Stewardson-Strasburg Sectional with a 42-28 win over North Clay (Louisville).

Altamont trailed North Clay 13-8 after the opening quarter but pushed into a 20-19 halftime lead. Altamont then had a 10-0 third quarter run and finished out strong for the victory.

Grace Nelson scored 21 while Peyton Osteen added 11 in the victory. Altamont improves to 18-8.

North Clay was led by Miah Ballard and Camdyn Tappendorf with 10 points each. North Clay ends the season with a 16-6 record.

Altamont heads to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Paris High School Saturday and will play the first game of the day at 10 a.m. against Bloomington Corpus Christi (18-5).

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael claimed its own sectional championship with a 30-13 victory over Pana Sacred Heart Wednesday.

The Sharpshooters improve to 18-6 on the season while Pana ended its season at 12-8.

St. Michael heads to the Class 1A State Tournament at Assumption Central A&M Middle School Saturday. The Sharpshooters will take on Mount Pulaski (23-2) at 2:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Cumberland Sectional

Teutopolis saw its season come to an end in the Cumberland Sectional Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes fell to Tolono Unity, 16-14. T-town took a 6-2 opening quarter lead but Tolono Unity came back to lead 8-6 at halftime, holding the Shoes scoreless in the second period.

T-town again moved ahead in the third quarter, 13-12 but Tolono Unity had a 4-1 final period.

Ellie Thoele led the Shoes with five points. T-town ends the season at 25-3.

Class 7-3A Cumberland Sectional

Class 7-4A Effingham Sectional

Effingham's season ended with a 32-29 overtime loss to Mahomet-Seymour at its own 7-4A Sectional Wednesday.

No other information was provided.

Mahomet-Seymour advances to the 4A State Tournament at  Bolingbrook Brooks Middle School with a 16-7 record.
