Effingham Sacred Heart and Stewardson-Strasburg advanced to the consolation championship game of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament after picking up victories Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras defeated Dieterich 42-30. Moschenrose tallied 19 and Nichols 18 for the winners. Dieterich was led by C. Thoele and Kuhl with nine points each.

Stew-Stras trailed 23-12 at halftime then had a 15-2 third period run and outscored Dieterich 15-5 in the final period.

In the second contest, Sacred Heart edged Windsor 39-35 in overtime. Windsor held a 19-13 halftime lead and led 29-21 going into the final period. The Shamrocks came back with a 13-5 run to tie the score and send the game into overtime where they pulled out the victory.

Tegeler scored 23 for the winners while Hutchinson scored 23 for Windsor.

The tournament finishes out Thursday evening with Altamont facing St. Elmo/Brownstown for the championship at 8 p.m. Cowden-Herrick takes on Beecher City for third place at 6:45 and Stew-Stras and Sacred Heart square off at 5:30 for the consy title.

Flora picked up an eighth-grade victory over host South Central. Flora was an 80-48 winner.
