T-town Unbeaten at Thanksgiving Tourney

SALEM -- Teutoplis High School stands at 3-0 in the 18th Annual Salem Wildcat Girls Thanksgiving Tournament after weekend action.

T-town took a 64-35 win over Centralia in Friday competition. The Wooden Shoes took off to a 19-7 opening quarter lead and led 36-18 at halftime.

Morgan Mette tallied 13 points to lead the way while O. Niemerg chipped in with 11. L. Niebrugge added nine and H. Bueker and C. Bushur had eight each in even scoring. Niemerg had four steals while K. Mette had three.

In Saturday competition, the Wooden Shoes defeated Belleville Althoff, 49-37.

Once again T-town jumped out to an early lead, 20-11 in the opening quarter then had a rough second period to lead only 24-21 at halftime. The Shoes held a five point lead going into the final quarter and held on for the win.

Three players hit double figures, Bushur led with 14 followed by Niemerg 13 and M. Mette 10. Bushur had seven rebounds while Grimes, Niebrugge and Niemerg had six each. Niemerg had four steals.

In the third game, T-town beat host Salem, 56-27. The Wooden Shoes held a 30-14 halftime lead and never looked back.

Niebrugge and Bushur provided the one-two scoring punch with 14 points each. M. Mette chipped in with 12. Mette had six rebounds while Bushur had five. M. Mette had four steals.

In Thursday's games, Carterville beat Belleville Althoff, 50-43 while Centralia won over Salem, 51-43. In a Friday contest, Highland beat Salem, 57-23. In Saturday's other games, Carterville edged Highland, 44-42 while Highland beat Belleville Althoff, 46-37. Carterville downed Centralia, 60-44.

T-town and Carterville are 3-0 followed by Centralia and Highland at 1-1 and Salem and Belleville Althoff 0-3.

The tourney comes to a close Saturday with six games. T-town faces Highland at 12:30 and Carterville at 5.
