Effingham and Effingham St. Anthony split girls junior high school basketball wins Thursday evening.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Anthony edged the Mustangs, 25-24. The Bullpups trailed 16-12 at halftime and 21-16 going into the final quarter. In that last quarter, St. Anthony's Geen scored five and the Bullpups tallied the one-point win.

M. Kibler led St. Anthony with nine points while S. Kibler added six. Effingham was led by Volpi with 10 points.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham claimed a 35-15 victory. The Mustangs took a 14-8 halftime lead and never looked back. Niebrugge scored 11 to lead the way while Frost added eight.

St. Anthony was led by Faber, Willenborg and Fearday with four points each.

At Beecher City

Altamont handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City two losses in action Thursday evening.

Altamont won the seventh-grade National Trail Conference contest, 35-24. Altamont held a 16-6 halftime lead then had a 15-4 third quarter. Nelson scored 14 for the winners.

CHBC was led by Ruby Stuckemeyer with 12 as the team dropped to 3-4 in the conference, 10-7 overall.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont was a 42-30 winner.  Altamont led 23-14 at halftime then had a 12-2 third period. Nelson again led the way with 23 points. CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with 11.

At Toledo

Dieterich and Cumberland spilt victories Thursday evening.

Dieterich claimed the seventh-grade contest, 31-21. Cumberland held a 15-9 halftime lead, holding Dieterich scoreless in the second period.

Cumberland was led by T. Huddleston with 11 points and P. Dittamore with seven.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich was down by six points with 30 seconds remaining in regulation play but tied the score at 27-27 sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime session, Dieterich had a 7-4 run to pull out the 34-31 victory. Dieterich was led by C. Brummer and H. Kinnison with nine each. Cumberland was led by A. Becker with 13.
