Effingham Sacred Heart was a winner over Mattoon in junior high boys basketball action Thursday.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade game, 38-10. The Shamrocks edged out to a 7-4 opening quarter lead then took off with a 16-0 second period.

Noah Biggs led the way with 24 points for the Shamrocks.

In the eighth-grade contest, Sacred Heart led by four points at halftime then had a 24-13 second half for the 34-19 victory.

A. Tegeler tallied nine for the Shamrocks while D. Lohman added six.

At Altamont

Teutopolis Junior High School picked up two victories against Altamont in boys basketball competition Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade contest, 69-1. The lone point for Altamont came in the third quarter.

T-town was led by Eli Hanson, Evan Waldhoff, Carter Davidson and Joey Niebrugge with eight points each. Thirteen players scored in the game.

Altamont's point came from Carl.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town took a 20-10 opening half lead and went on for a 45-16 victory.

Brenden Niebrugge scored nine for the Shoes. Altamont was led by Hammer with four.

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg and North Clay (Louisville)/Clay City split victories Thursday.

North Clay/Clay City captured the seventh-grade game in overtime, 31-26. North Clay/Clay City held a 12-11 first half lead but Stew-Stras came back with an 11-2 third quarter. Then it was North Clay/Clay City with a 10-2 fourth quarter to tie the contest at 24-24. North Clay/Clay City then had a 7-2 overtime run.

Weidner led North Clay/Clay City with 14 and Kuenstler added nine. Gracey led Stew-Stras with 17.

In the eighth-grade contest, Stew-Stras won 55-21. Stew-Stras zipped out to a 20-4 opening quarter lead.

Nothaus led the way with 21 points while A. Wittenberg added 15. Fleener led North Clay/Clay City with eight.

At Newton

Dieterich and Newton St. Thomas split victories Thursday.

St. Thomas won the seventh-grade encounter, 45-28.

In eighth-grade action, Dieterich was a 47-21 winner.

 

At Nokomis

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its stay in the 49th Annual Nokomis Lions Club Eighth-Grade Tournament come to an end Thursday evening.

CHBC fell to Hillsboro in consolation bracket action, 38-21. Hillsboro stepped out to a 23-9 halftime lead and that was the game.

CHBC was led by Christian with 19 points and Duff and Helton with nine each.
