Mattoon Beats St. Anthony in Freshman Boys Basketball Action

Mattoon came calling at the Enlow Center and picked up two victories over host Effingham St. Anthony in freshman boys basketball play Wednesday evening.

Mattoon claimed the A contest 36-32. The Bulldogs edged out to an 8-7 opening quarter lead and led 15-13 at halftime. But the Green Wave came back with an 11-4 third period run to edge ahead 24-19. The Green Wave then connected on 10 of 13 free throws in the final quarter to nab the win.

Mattoon was led by Visler with 11 points. St. Anthony was led by Je. Niebrugge with 11.

In the B contest, Mattoon took a 34-19 win. The Green Wave led 12-10 at halftime then had an 11-4 third period run and outscored the Bulldogs 11-5 in the final period.

Craig led the winners with 11 while Sears led St. Anthony with 11.
