Teutopolis Nabs CHBC Frosh/Soph Girls Tourney Title

Teutopolis captured the championship of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Freshman/Sophomore Basketball Tournament Saturday.

In opening round games, Moweaqua Central A&M defeated Ramsey 47-37, Pana won over  Effingham 32-25, CHBC downed Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 50-45, Teutopolis beat North Clay (Louisville) 32-28, Effingham edged Ramsey 32-31, Central A&M downed Pana 32-18, North Clay defeated Christ Our Rock Lutheran 35-27 and Teutopolis won over CHBC 60-25.

In the seventh-place game, Ramsey defeated Christ Our Rock Lutheran 39-36.

The consolation championship went to Effingham over North Clay 35-31. Crowell tallied 13 for the winners while Bible led North Clay with 13.

In the third-place game, Pana defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 39-29. Ashcraft and Rochkes tallied nine points each for the winners. CHBC was led by Elizabeth Reed with 13.

In the championship contest, Teutopolis was a 47-28 winner. T-town held a 21-17 halftime lead then had a 26-11 second half run. Borries tallied 17 for the winners. Sparrgrove led Central A&M with 12.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Mikah Maples (Central A&M), MVP; Sabrina Maschoff (Christ Our Rock), Myah Herbord (Pana), Jenny McMahon (Teutopolis), Carson Bible (North Clay), Mikayla Stanfield (North Clay), Chandler Ward (CHBC), Katie Beck (Pana), Marranda Steffen (Effingham) and Savannah Devore (Effingham).
