Neoga Boys Win, Girls Lose at Monticello Meet

MONTICELLO -- Neoga High School picked up a win in the Monticello Holiday Boys Tournament Thursday while the girls squad fell.

Boys Tournament

Neoga edged Sangamon Valley 51-49. The two squads were tied at 10-10 after the opening quarter. Neoga took a 26-24 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Sangamon Valley came back with a 14-12 run to knot the score at 38-38 going into the final period. Neoga then pulled out the victory.

Cordell Kersey tallied 14 for the winners while teammates Jake Baker scored 12 and Michael Baker 10. M. Baker pulled down 13 rebounds and J. Baker had three assists.

In other games, Mount Zion 80, Tuscola 49; Ridgeview 55, Blue Ridge 49; Monticello 63, GCMS 30; Ridgeview 42, Mount Zion 34 and Blue Ridge 70, Tuscola 61.

Girls Tournament

In the girls portion of the tournament, Neoga fell to Stark County 51-36. Stark County took a 34-18 halftime lead and never looked back.

Jillian Deters led Neoga with 19 points.
