Windsor Claims Opening Win at Tri-County Tourney

KANSAS -- Windsor High School was extremely hot in the opening five minutes of the first quarter to whip out to a 20-8 lead over Tri-County. The Blue Devils went on to claim the victory 58-47 in the opening game of the Tri-County Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Thursday.

Windsor held a 33-14 halftime lead. Tri-County came back with a 33-25 second half run but it was too little, too late.

The Blue Devils were led by Trey Leasher, a 6-foot-3 senior, and Tristan Warner, a 6-foot freshman, with 19 points each. Leasher had a double-double with 16 rebounds.

Arthur-Lovington 68, Stewardson-Strasburg 55

Arthur-Lovington took a 22-10 opening quarter lead and led 34-27 at halftime. The squad continued to outscore the Comets 34-28 in the second half.

Three players hit double figures for Stew-Stras. Jason Fry tallied 17, Brandon Helmuth with 14 and Justin Fulk with 10.

Hutsonville/Palestine 55, Cumberland 46

Hutsonville/Palestine has swept Cumberland so far this season. The two squads have played three times now with Hutsonville/Palestine taking all three victories. Thursday's tourney game was no different as H-P claimed the 55-46 victory.

H-P edged out to a 13-11 opening quarter lead and led 24-19 at halftime. The Pirates came back with a slight 15-14 edge in the third quarter but Hutsonville/Palestine got back on track in the final period.

Williams tallied 16 and Eckert 14 for the winners. Cumberland was led by Houston Napier with 13 and Trevor Brumleve with 11.

Paris 45, Westville 22

In the only other game, Paris led 21-9 at halftime and never looked back in a 45-22 victory over Westville.

Lueken was the lone Tiger player in double figures with 14.
