Altamont Picks Up Win at Vandalia Boys Tourney

VANDALIA -- Altamont High School handed Maroa-Forsyth a 55-44 loss in opening round play at the Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.

The Indians edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead but Maroa-Forsyth knotted the score at 23-23 at halftime. The Indians then had a 12-10 third quarter lead and a 20-11 final period run.

Garrett Ziegler, a 6-foot junior, tallied 19 points to lead the Indians. Teammate Jon Kuhns tallied 14. Altamont will now meet Vandalia today at 8 p.m.

Flora 50, South Central 36

In the opening game, delayed because of the weather and Flora attempting to get to the tournament, the Wolves defeated South Central 50-36.

The Wolves held a 20-15 halftime lead then had a 19-8 run in the third period. Pearce tallied 17 for the winners and Leib added 13.

South Central was led by Fischer Tharp with 20. Tharp also pulled down six rebounds. Flora takes on St. Elmo today at 6:30 p.m. while South Central faces Pana at 12:30 p.m.

Pana 66, St. Elmo 48

Four players hit double figures for Pana as the Panthers defeated St. Elmo with a 23-4 third quarter surge.

Up to that point, Pana held only a 24-23 halftime lead. Dylan Hudlin tallied 18 points to lead the Panthers while Gibson, Kricher and Zahradka tallied 10 each. The Panthers meet South Central at 12:30 p.m. today and Greenville at 5 p.m.

St. Elmo was led by Connor Beasley and Levi Maxey tallied 17 points each. The Eagles will square off against Greenville at 9:30 a.m. today and then take on Flora at 6:30 p.m.
