Jason Hanson has resigned as boys varsity basketball coach at Teutopolis.

Hanson coached the Wooden Shoes for three seasons, winning a sectional championship his first season and winning regionals in each of the past two seasons. His three-year win-loss record was 75-20. That included a 22-9 record this past season, when they lost to Mt. Carmel 48-47 in the sectional championship game at Robinson.

Hanson coached at Casey-Westfield prior to his run at T-Town, reaching the super-sectional in his final season with the Warriors. He also coached at Neoga, winning a regional championship there.

Hanson did not teach at Teutopolis, so no teaching position is involved.

Mike Walker also submitted his resignation Monday as boys frosh-soph coach, so Teutopolis is looking to fill two vacancies on their staff.

Hanson emailed the following statement:

"I have resigned as Teutopolis Boys Basketball Coach effective April 16th. I have been honored to coach at Ttown the last three years. It has been an unbelievable experience to coach in the Wooden Shoes program.

I want to say thank you to the many people who made my family and I welcome in the community. Also, I would like to thank the other coaches, teachers, and staff I've worked with in the district. They are top notch people who are making a difference every day. The many people who support the program by helping at games are also much appreciated.

Most of all I would like to thank the players who I've had the pleasure to coach. Nineteen players have moved through the program while I was here. They are fantastic young men. The bonds I've formed with them will not be broken due to me not coaching. Even though we were not able to go as far in the state tournament as I thought we could or would have liked, the relationships I've formed with players and others means much more.

The Wooden Shoes program is one of the best in the state. The program, school, and community are exemplary to others in how to build and maintain quality athletic programs.

Attracting a great coach will not be a problem. I'll continue to cheer for the Wooden Shoes.

With regards,
Jason Hanson
